Fixed dose standard unfractionated heparin for long term therapy of patients with thrombosis and malignancy

Recently an article demonstrated that fixed dose standard unfractionated heparin administered subcutaneously for initial treatment of deep vein thrombosis is effective.  To further this indication, patients will randomized to standard bridge therapy with weight dosed low molecular weight heparin or fixed dose unfractionated heparin.  This study will stratify patients to disease state and staging and evaluate the efficacy and safety of the two treatment plans.  The study will begin at University Medical Center in early 2007.
